  • COVID-19 is most commonly contracted through human-to-human contact by inhaling respiratory droplets. The virus does not survive well on surfaces so there is slim chance of contracting the virus through contact with contaminated surfaces. 
  • However we take an abundance of caution and our cleaning and disinfecting protocols have been further increased.
  • Our cleaning process (since 1989) has always included the use of hospital standard cleaning Gels and Bleach.
  • We always clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. Every room is given a deep clean between guests with disinfection.
  • We ensure that the public areas are regularly cleaned every day.
  • We ensure there are sanitising bottles at the entrance of the Guest house and the dining room so guests can add another level of care in addition to their 20 second hand washing.
  • Guests, our staff, and approved contractors entering Koornhoop have their temperature checked each time they enter Koornhoop. Other visitors are NOT allowered to enter the premises.
  • We wipe, using our Gels, Bleach and Alcohol, all the door handles, door knobs, and entrance key pads in the guesthouse daily and after guests leave.
  • Our team use uniforms that are laundered on site each day.
  • All our laundry is managed by a specialist "Essential Business” laundry company that also provides services to Hospitals and Care Centres to the highest standards.
  • Our team is extensively trained to clean rooms and leave them disinfected each day. Including, for example, light switches, bedside lamp switches, the alarm clock/radio, kettle, TV remotes etc.
  • Used crockery and cutlery are placed in the dishwasher and washed at the highest temperature.
  • Delivery and acceptance of goods and hot food. All goods must be received outside Koornhoop. Delivery personnel are not allowed to enter Koornhoop under any circumstances. Please do not place your food deliveries on the bed. 
  • To maximise social distancing We restrict the number of guests in the breakfast room to 4 at any one time.  The rota will be advised to you when you first arrive. 
  • To assist with the SA tracing methodolgy of Test, idetify, & isolate we have to record (as per curent regulations) the details of our guests - name, cell number, ID/Passport, Travelling from, Travelling to, so that tracing of potential sources of infection can be rapidly completed.

What you can do to help (WHO advice)

  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue into the toilet in your room. Please wear your mask in all the common areas.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. 
  • Please use the sanitising bottles at the Guest house front door and at the entrance to the breakfast room. Please use them entering and exiting the guest house.
  • You are welcome to also use your own sanitising wipes during your stay.
  • And please avoid shaking hands and hugging people.
